Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) is one of the most popular teams in the IPL, and they are on the hunt for a new captain in the IPL 2025 mega auction after releasing their last season’s captain, Faf du Plessis. The team has retained only three players: Virat Kohli, Rajat Patidar, and Yash Dayal. With a remaining purse of INR 83 crore, the second-highest after Punjab Kings, RCB is in a strong position to buy 2-3 high-profile players, one of whom could become their new captain. Check out the 3 players who can lead RCB in IPL 2025.

3 Players who can lead RCB in IPL 2025

Virat Kohli

Rumors suggest Virat Kohli might return as RCB’s captain. The franchise retained the 36-year-old for INR 21 crore as their top retention, and reports indicate he has shown interest in leading the team again. If the management agrees, fans could see Virat leading RCB once more. The right-handed batter has previously captained RCB from 2011 to 2023, leading them in 143 matches with 66 wins.

KL Rahul

KL Rahul could also be a captaincy option for RCB if Kohli doesn’t return to the role. Rahul, a local player from Bangalore, Karnataka, has a strong connection with the franchise, having played for RCB in 2013 and 2016. With 132 IPL matches and 4,683 runs under his belt, he’s expected to attract a bid of around INR 18 crore in the IPL 2025 mega auction.

Shreyas Iyer

Shreyas Iyer is another player likely to be on RCB’s list. He led KKR to the IPL 2024 title and is now available in the auction. With 3,127 runs in 116 IPL matches, Iyer could be a great fit for RCB’s captaincy. However, securing Iyer will be competitive, as he’s expected to go for over INR 18 crore in the auction.
